This album has a lot of different Mariah "personalities." Hence the title: The elusive chanteuse. She does not want to be boxed in by critics or fans. It does have a throw back vibe to her 90's albums, especially Music Box, Daydream and Butterfly. Some of the tracks took some time to grow on me, but as usual it is a gem. Mariah knows what is best for us!Cry: Beautiful ballad that has an old school vibe. It sounds like it is about a past relationship. She starts out singing with restraint then lets her emotions explode. Reminiscent of Butterfly era. 10/10Faded: This one grows on you the more you here it.She is talking about how a relationship that has has faded. Reminiscent of Daydream/Butterfly/Rainbow era. 9/10Dedicated: Clunky beat that I did not like right off. Another grower. Her voice is so soulful and beautiful in this composition. Baby makin' music. This could be a big summer hit. 9/10#Beautiful: First time I heard this, I loved it. Great Mariah Jam. Miguel has such a great voice, too. Awesome turn up loud and go for a car drive song. 10/10Thirsty: Club banger in the vein of Obsessed. Telling someone that she is the reason they made it. Great Chorus. Another summer hit. 10/10Make It Look Good: Could have been on "The Emancipation of Mimi." Great Motown beats. Her voice is liquid soul. Fun! 10/10You're Mine(Eternal): This could have been a huge hit with the right promotion. Subdued, laid back, sexy groove. Sounds great with the rest of the album. 10/10You Don't Know What To Do: That voice! Damn! 70's disco-influenced. It is great to see Mariah so free and expressive. The most free she has sounded since "Emotions." The rapping is very complementary to the song. Another possible big summer hit. 10/10Supernatural: Hmm. You get to hear her kids sing with her. It has a nice message. This song could have been an interlude. 8/10Meteorite: Grows on you. Another 70's disco-influenced number. Her voice is spot on with this track. Encouraging message. This makes you want to dance. 9/10Camouflage: Asking if someone still loves her. Reminiscent of Butterfly. Great lyrics. 8/10Money($*/...): Obnoxious music, especially intro. Her voice is very soulful and beautiful on this track. Airy and light in the chorus. Very reminiscent of her big tracks in the 90's. 10/10One More Try: Mariah nails this out of the ballpark. It starts out subdued and grabs your heart. She does it so different than George Michael and I appreciate that. This recalls her first two albums! Finally, what us diehard fans have been waiting for. Mariah, I have always loved you, but this just takes my breath away. Thank you. 10/10Heavenly(No Ways Tired/ Can't Give Up Now): Mariah always releases an album when I am going through something personally. This song is the one I needed to here. "I just can't give up now, Come too far from where I started from, Nobody told me the road would be easy, I don't believe he brought me this far to leave me." Gospel-tinged song that is a testament to her faith in God. 10/10Bonus Tracks:It's A Wrap: One of my favorites from Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. Fun to have Mary J. Blige rap and sing with her. Her vocals are out of this world.10/10Betcha Gon' Know: Another favorite from Memoirs. This song is a confessional of her catching her man cheating. R. Kelly's rap is alright, but does not do much for me. 9/10The Art of Letting Go: A Mariah moment, an event. The reason I fell in love with her on Vision of Love is evident on this track, also. No one can make you feel the way Mariah Carey can with that voice. This song is about letting go of something and how hard it is to move on. 10/10
