This recording is very special- it was done in 2006 when a miraculous reunion occurred- two cousins, both thinking the entire family was lost in the Holocaust were reunited after one was listening to a recording of the other! The story was shared on NPR for Yom Hashoah in April of 2009. 'Finding Family Through Song' from The Story radio show. Cantor Leopold Szneer, an orthodox cantor and Cantor Deborah Katchko-Gray, a conservative /reform pioneer woman cantor, are from the Katchko family from Kalisz, Poland. Deborah's grandfather and Leopold's father were first cousins- their mothers were sisters in Kalisz. 70 years later the family is reunited and singing together. It is quite remarkable! Leopold also composes beautiful synagogue music as Deborah's grandfather is also a revered composer of synagogue music. Together the harmony and love shared through Jewish music is obvious and moving.
