Renee Dang is obviously an extremely lovely person with high energy and has a very down to earth and plain-spoken writing style. I very much appreciate that and enjoyed the book immensely! She seemed to write TO me and actually WITH me instead of at me, like a friend would. I am going to build a homestead (probably off-grid, way out in the woods) in an area of the country that has 45 annual inches of rain so it began to dawn on me that with rainwater catchment, I absolutely DO NOT need to spend a fortune (or even one thin dime!) on drilling a well at all! The aquifer can keep its lovely water! Also, with Permaculture swales, catchment ponds and such I can actually contribute to that very same aquifer, instead of stealing from it and commoditizing it as us humans are want to do with everything we touch!The book gave me the much-needed and desired context, details and sources to form a plan in my mind for my forthcoming system. I was a handy-man for 25-some-odd years to the rich and infamous and so I can build and fix pretty much anything and the information in this book was all I needed to get the plans coalescing in my little frustrated-engineer brain. But even if (and especially if) you are a complete plumbing novice or an actual plumber the book will be very valuable to you too. This book is what happens when the author is a real, caring human being.But to go along with that rugged individualist mentality and to save LOTS of money to boot, I plan to cast my own large (probably inground) concrete cistern and small and large above ground tanks for various other purposes. I will put lightly filtered rainwater into the cistern, then draw directly from it to water the garden and animals and another branch going into the house which will be very much more filtered and purified using the micron filters and techniques Renee outlined. It’s all so clear now in my head after reading this book. I'm not sure if I will use gunnite, latex concrete, ferrocement, normal concrete or something I haven't even thought of... yet. This is the part that was barely touched upon in the book and I would suggest that in a future addition she include the ins and outs of casting your own concrete tanks. I think that would be of great interest to many since most homesteaders have a lot more time than money… as in my case too. I will be researching this myself as well and my main concern is if any of these cementitious materials will leach anything nasty into the water. If this info was in a revised addition, it would give me an excellent reason to buy the new version! We are trying to get away from modern chemical agriculture, poisoned and nutritionally depleted food supply and MICRO-PLASTICS and all the other crap that has made us Americans so incredibly SICK and UNHEALTHY in the last 70 or so years. Nobody else in the world is as sick and obese as Americans now are and it's the food and the enviromental poising. So DIY concrete tanks is a really big and missing topic for me.And finally, I got an email from Renee (for anyone who signs up and who downloads her additional information) which stated that she is presently working on a book that addresses rainwater filtration. Oh, happy day… :) She touched lightly on that subject in this book and I am very grateful for what she covered because I now have a clue on the topic whereas before, I was pretty clueless. But puppy bisquits, when she publishes that filtration book, with her characteristic thoroughness and plain-spoken, down-to-earth writing style, I will snap that sucker up and read it like a burning fire, not even waiting for it to be discounted later -as I usually do! We have not seen near the end of great stuff from this high energy and wonderful writer! (Give Luther a scratch for me- Heh)
