Description

Product Description This deluxe edition is the ultimate collector's item, packed with extras to entice the over 200,000 fans who've already made the original release one of the breakout stories of the past year. Video regulars on MTV and FUSE, alternative radio faves with their hook-laden single "Everything Is Alright", and headliners on the 2006 Warped Tour, Motion City Soundtrack are everybody's pick to break wide open from this year's Warped Tour, following in the footsteps of My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy. Includes a bonus DVD packed with over three hours of footage, including an hour-long live performance, and an unreleased bonus track on the CD. Amazon.com On its follow-up to 2003 debut, I Am The Movie, this Minnesota-based band sounds like it's clawing for the big time with efficient melodies and tight, taut choruses, plus producer Mark Hoppus of Blink-182's platinum punk-pop direction. It's hard to imagine how it could fail--fiery rockers like "Hold Me Down" and "Time Turn Fragile" sound tailor-made for teenage spring-break festivities despite their less-than-breezy subject matter, while the fact that Motion City Soundtrack remains the only band of its kind to employ a full-time Moog player should easily set it apart from the rest of the bespectacled MySpace/Warped Tour pack. --Aidin Vaziri

Quarantine turned me on to a lot of bands and artists that I otherwise wouldn't have given the time of day to in my former life. One of the greatest discoveries was Motion City Soundtrack, a Minnesota emo-rock band that had some pretty big success on the indie scene, but unlike Weezer or Jimmy Eat World before them, they never caught that same wave of success.I personally find it to be a shame that they're not that popular since I'd argue that this band's best material can stand toe-to-toe with the other bands I mentioned. Commit This to Memory is no exception either, as it sees the band turning in some of their finest songwriting, greatest performances, and the bittersweet lyrics that have become a trademark in MCS's palette. Mark Hoppus' production elevates everything to sounding amazing (and makes me wish that he'd produce Blink's latest albums instead of John Feldmann), and Justin Pierre, while not a perfect singer, gives it his all in every song. The guest appearances are a welcome addition too, with Mark himself popping in to sing the bridge of "Hangman", and Patrick Stump (lead singer of Fall Out Boy) bringing his smooth & iconic timbre to the backing vocals of "Everything Is Alright".Moving on to the vinyl, while I was looking to find a way to purchase this album on vinyl, I was a bit wary of getting it through Amazon. Most of the reviews leaned toward the pressing being not being that great, but I was willing to take a shot with it. However, having bought some of my current vinyl through Amazon and only having one be a true crapper (Billie Eilish's debut for those curious), I can confidently say that, better pressings are out there (I'd love to get my hands on the pink reissue SRC did a few years back), but this one is totally fine. Not great, but definitely good for the money, and gets the job done well enough.
