Asplenium antiquum is an evergreen fern, 2–3 ft. (60–90 cm). It has bright green, arching blades with a pointed end and a strong midrib. The Bird’s Nest Fern is characterized by ripple-edged fronds that grow out of a nest-like crown. They do well in low-medium light, watered weekly. This houseplant is pet-friendly! Plant in a shaded position ensuring the crown of the fern is above the soil line. The growing medium needs to be well drained to allow for plenty of air movement around the roots and avoid wet feet. Remove old fronds to keep plants looking fresh and avoid disease. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Ferns thrive in humid conditions, provide frequent watering and misting during the warmer months and less during winter. Let the soil dry out a little between watering. Apply a liquid based fertiliser every 4 weeks during the warmer months, take care to dilute your solution to at least half the recommended dose to avoid burn. Shade loving foliage plant suited to ferneries & rock gardens, or attach to the fork of a tree. Leslie has a slender upright shape and heavily divided leaf ends like curly parsley, on mature leaves.
