Description

CLEAN. Original soundtrack to the 2013 motion picture directed by Baz Luhrman. The soundtrack features songs performed by Jay -Z, Beyonce & Andre 3000, will.i.am, Florence & The Machine, Lana Del Rey and many others. The film is an adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's Long Island-set novel, where Midwesterner Nick Carraway is lured into the lavish world of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby. Soon enough, however, Carraway will see through the cracks of Gatsby's nouveau riche existence, where obsession, madness, and tragedy await.

Will.i.am scats, Fergie peps up a dance floor, Lana del Rey pleads with the heavens, Gotye's desperate to connect, Bryan Ferry croons knowingly... This album is all over the place and I love it.The first listen is kind of weird, like you're being led through a funhouse and the theme keeps changing drastically, but you see some images on the walls and you like them. Then you go through the funhouse again, this time knowing which pictures to pay attention to and when to just enjoy the ride.Baz Luhrmann wanted to give today's audience the energy that an audience in the 20's would have listening to era music, and he gave us a collection that makes lovechildren with hip-hop and scat, jazz and dubstep, easy listening and rock.I don't love every song but the whole thing is worth listening to. Most albums are fairly uniform with a few songs standing out; here, they all stand out, and they're all so different that there's almost no way every track would find its way into your heart. But the ones that do will haunt you for months- I've had no less than 7 of these tracks stay stuck in my head since my first listen months ago.
